The guy who wrote Chariots of the Gods was right; these sure look like ancient astronauts to me. The cover story, according to the National Park Service, is that the “Fremont people” etched these petroglyphs into the canyon wall near Capitol Reef’s visitor center some 800-1,300 years ago. The Fremont lived here until 1300 and then abandoned the area—roughly the same moment the cliff dwellers back at Mesa Verde also left their unique abodes. Maybe the spaceship came and took them all away.
