Burning, Then and Now
Mile 2,008, Bryce Canyon National Park, UT
Upon our arrival at Bryce, we were a tad worried by a plume of smoke rising from the south end of the park. Was it a fire? Would it grow? Would they close the park and ship us away? The answers, in short order: Yes, no and no. The remains of the forest seen here were from a moderate fire that blazed through just a week or so before our arrival; the smoke in the background is from a controlled burn overseen by park officials.
