Behold, Southeast Utah
Mile 1,889, UT State Highway 12
We’re going Cinerama for this wide-screen view of an area bragged to be larger than Connecticut, all from a prime outlook located off of Highway 12—a scenic connection between Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon that’s not only quite beautiful but high, with an apex of 9,600 feet above sea level. It’s also a relative newcomer for vehicular tourists; it wasn’t totally paved until 1985. In the foreground lies the southern end of Capitol Reef; the tallest of the peaks beyond is Mt. Ellen Peak, at 11,506 feet.
