Brew and Gelato
Mile 1,502, Moab, UT
On a toasty summer night in Moab (average high in July: 102), folks in front of the Moab Brewery line up for a post-meal scoop of gelato. Moab’s miniscule and sleepy existence was shattered during the Cold War when uranium, thought to be abundantly hidden in the surrounding canyons, brought in droves of prospectors. Now it serves as the watering hole for tourists (many of them European) checking out Arches and Canyonlands, or adventurists reveling in quasi-extreme recreation on land and water around town.
