Trappin”the Tourists
Mile 1,487, U.S. Highway 191
As the red rock environment emerges, shouting out around a corner is a place called Hole N”the Rock, a private establishment where no eccentricity has been spared; it contains a gift shop, trading post and even a zoo; look just below the “O” and “C” on the name on the wall and you’ll see a sculpture of Franklin D. Roosevelt carved from the rock face. The prime feature of the whole joint, however, is a 5,000-ft. home carved inside the rock that could be confused for Osama bin Laden’s dream cave home. My typographical mind asks: Why two apostrophes after the “N” and not one?
