The Petrified Patrol
Mile 1,034, Petrified Forest, AZ
As we walk about the mile-long path at Crystal Forest, we spot a park ranger who’s spotting back at potential petrified rock smugglers. Even with the establishment of the area as a national park in 1962, visitors still try to take off with these roughened jewels; an estimated ton of them is “lost” per month, according to estimates.
