The display of petrified wood just steps outside the visitor center was the most colorful we saw on our 20-mile trek through the park, and this particular piece is one of just a handful that managed to live up to expectations. Much of everything else we saw just didn’t wow us, in part because the best of the best is long gone, pilfered over the last 150 years by those looking to make a buck (or thousands of them) selling these gems.
