For folks stopping through Flagstaff on their way to the Grand Canyon, they get two options based on almost equal mileage. Go left, and you basically go in the way we did, transitioning from lush forests to high plateaus before stumbling upon the heart of the park. Go right, and you eventually absorb yourself westward along the South Rim and into emerging Canyon.
