The Grand View
Mile 811, Grandview Point, Grand Canyon, AZ
Our exit out of the Grand Canyon takes us eastward, allowing us to skim by the various vantage points offered along the South Rim. Here at Grandview Point, we begin to see the breakdown of the Canyon into an emerging range of sculpted pyramid-like mounds. This point was the site of the first hotel in the park back in the 1890s, originally built for mining prospectors—then for tourists when the miners gave up trying to extract from the difficult canyon terrain. Grandview Point also is the trailhead for the park’s most challenging hike down from the South Rim.
