When we planned the trip, we simply couldn’t resist the temptation to book a room at one of Route 66’s famous and still operational landmarks, the Wigwam Motel. The tepee-shaped rooms are cool to behold, but the frills end right there; the space is small, negotiating the bathrooms is something of a challenge, and there’s no pool or free breakfast (you don’t even get the keys to the vintage car that’s parked outside each tepee). But for a mere $60 a night, we knew what to expect. Keep your expectations modest, and you’ll have a pleasantly good time.
