Semis roll out of the Flying J at dawn amid the motels and fast food joints that dominate Kingman—particularly on Route 66, decommissioned in favor of I-40 until a wave of retro appreciation for the highways of old made it a tourist trap of sorts for people like us, readying to drive perhaps the most famous stretch of the “Historic” highway on this morning.
