The Buzzy Butt Road
Mile 2,765, CA State Highway 120
Over the border and back into California, we come upon one of our favorite stretches of road—and, for road thrill seekers, one of the best kept secrets around: The Buzzy Butt Road. It’s our own title to a five-mile section of seldom-used Highway 120 east of Mono Lake that contains one big dip after another and, like a roller coaster, gives you a numbing sensation in the butt. We first discovered the Buzzy Butt road in 1997, and introduced it to the kids in 2006; it was near the top of their wish list for this trip.
