Don’t Muck With Tonopah
Mile 2,668, Tonopah, NV
After Goldfield, Tonopah is Paris by comparison, but we’ll pull back on the positives right there. Tonopah is an old mining town that never really died, and the people here do bend backward to promote it; it’s self-vouched as the best place to stargaze at night, and is home to the Tonopah Historic Mining Park, claimed to be voted the “best rural museum in Nevada.” (Were there any other nominees?) The thing we have the most fun with in regards to Tonopah is the high school nickname, as shown here; we’re wondering if the booster club is called the “Mother Muckers.”
