We knew we were back in California: The price of gas shot up—and the level of civility shot down. The amount of mean was readily apparent upon our entrance into Yosemite, from the biker who loudly barked at a handicapped driver in a parking lot as a “retard” to the man in the room next to ours at Yosemite Lodge pontificating to his two, very disinterested daughters about divorce and lawyers, raving like an angry tenured college professor. Even the inebriated dudes in Vegas were less obnoxious.
