The Dam Facts
Hoover Dam, NV-AZ
The history behind the building of Hoover Dam is almost as impressive as the structure itself. The dam couldn’t be built with existing technologies, so new ones were created to make it happen; despite this handicap and the isolated, rugged canyon terrain it was built on, Hoover Dam was completed well under budget and two full years ahead of schedule, in 1935. Some 21,000 people worked on building it; 112 of them died on the job. Finally, what’s inside the two pillars emerging from the span? The one at left, we know for sure, is a men’s bathroom.
