Before settling into Vegas, we venture down the road to Hoover Dam, which I’ve never seen in spite of eight Vegas visits (most of them business-related) over the previous four years. In the wake of 9-11, authorities at the dam are taking no chances; there is a checkpoint shy of the dam—which I had a great photo lined up for before Michelle told me to put the camera down, fearing that I’d come across as casing the guards. Signs like this are everyone as you park, as is airport-style security screening when you enter the facility to take a tour.
