The Puffies
Mile 388, Barstow, CA
We know we’ve made it into the Southwest when we see the “Puffies,” the towering cumulus clouds that provoke afternoon monsoonal thundershowers in the desert and provide an exotic change of pace for people like us who see little more than undefined low overcast and wispy high clouds along the California coast in the summer. We weren’t disappointed with this fast-burgeoning storm that was developing over Barstow as we continued eastward.
