Entering into Arizona, we come face to face with the mighty Colorado for the first of four expected appearances on our trip. Beyond the bend are the Needles, downriver some ten miles from Needles, California—where our minivan’s exterior temperature gauge records the warmest reading for the entire trip, at a toasty 107 degrees.
